Paul Stepto
Kent County Councillor
Paul has lived in Tonbridge for over 35 years and before retiring he worked for a major financial services company.
He has served as secretary and co-chair of the Tonbridge & Malling Green Party and in 2021 was elected along with Mark Hood to represent the town on Kent County Council. He has volunteered in local schools, taught languages part-time at a college in Rochester, is co-organiser of Tonbridge Folk Club, and one of the founders of Tonbridge Repair Cafe.
Paul values and seeks to retain Tonbridge’s unique character and social mix and he has used his position at KCC to tackle issues raised by residents. He has also been able to give financial support to numerous local charities and community groups. He sits on KCC’s Pension Committee and the Children, Young People and Education Committee, in addition to several other working groups
Paul believes that brown field sites should be prioritised over Green Belt in any new development, and he opposes the council’s policy of selling off assets to meet budget shortfalls. He is working to improve air quality in the High Street, urgently address the shortage of truly affordable housing in the town, and make the council more representative, transparent and accountable.
