Sign The Petition: A Future Free from Fossil Fuels!

The government has opened an unprecedented consultation asking the public to have their say on how the UK assesses the climate impacts of new oil and gas projects. This is a pivotal moment in the fight against climate change, and we must make our voices heard!

Our petition calls for an end to new oil and gas projects and a decisive move towards renewable energy and sustainable job creation. Here’s why you should join us in demanding bold climate action:

Stop New Oil & Gas Projects

The North Sea’s reserves are running dry, and drilling for more fossil fuels is not the answer. Investing in renewables is the only way to lower energy bills, increase energy security, and reduce reliance on expensive foreign imports. Cancelling new projects like Rosebank could prevent billions of tonnes of CO2 from being released into the atmosphere unnecessarily.

Create a Plan for Jobs and Investment

Fossil fuel jobs have been declining for over a decade. The government must prioritize a clear, well-funded plan to support oil and gas workers as we transition to renewable energy. This is about creating good-quality, sustainable jobs and securing a future for workers and their communities.

The Green Party’s Vision for Renewable Energy

As outlined in our 2024 manifesto, the Green Party is committed to:

  • Delivering a zero-carbon electricity supply well before 2050, ensuring a secure, clean energy future.
  • Expanding renewable energy, including 80GW of offshore wind, 53GW of onshore wind, and 100GW of solar power by 2035.
  • Investing in energy storage and efficient electricity distribution.
  • Supporting community-owned energy projects so profits can lower bills and benefit local areas.
  • Phasing out fossil fuels, cancelling projects like Rosebank, and introducing carbon taxes on fossil fuel imports and domestic extraction.

This isn’t just about the climate; it’s about building a fairer, greener future for everyone. Together, we can ensure the UK leads the charge in renewable energy and job creation, leaving behind the dirty, outdated fossil fuels of the past.
