At the recent Joint Transportation Board (JTB) meeting, key updates on local transport and road safety initiatives were discussed. Anna Cope, Mark Hood, and Paul Stepto were present, contributing to the discussion on ongoing projects. Councillor Neil Baker, Cabinet Member for Highways and Transport, provided an update on the review of the Joint Transportation Boards, which is currently on hold pending Government proposals. Speed limit adjustments in Ightham were addressed, with a focus on implementing a 20 mph zone and improving traffic calming measures to enhance safety.
The meeting also covered the public consultation on Kent County Council’s Local Transport Plan 5, which is set to conclude on 8 October 2024. The plan aims to promote sustainable travel and reduce carbon emissions, with local projects in Tonbridge and Malling receiving particular attention. Anna Cope and Mark Hood encouraged local residents to participate in the consultation to ensure community needs are met, including improvements to cycling and walking infrastructure and potential enhancements to student rail services.
Road and infrastructure projects were another focal point, including updates on the Highways Forward Works Programme. Schemes such as the Coldharbour Roundabout Junction Improvement were highlighted, alongside local road resurfacing and drainage repair efforts. Paul Stepto supported the proposed updates to highway improvements in areas like East Malling, Mereworth, and Tonbridge. The meeting concluded with discussions on parking restrictions in Ightham and upcoming consultations for Phase 15 of the Parking Review. These initiatives reflect the continued efforts to improve safety and accessibility across the borough.
