Tonbridge and Malling Green Party’s March Monthly Clean-Up: A Sunny Success for the Community

At the Tonbridge and Malling Green Party, we believe in Working Hard, Not Just During Elections. Our commitment to creating a cleaner, greener community is reflected in our monthly clean-up events, and our March Monthly Clean-Up was no exception. Held in the Higham Lane area, this event brought together Green Party members, volunteers, and local residents for a morning of litter-picking and community spirit.

The clean-up took place on a bright and sunny day, with volunteers meeting outside theCo-op on Martin Hardie Way. Armed with litter pickers, gloves, and sturdy footwear, the group set out to tackle litter and grime in the Higham Lane area. The event saw an amazing turnout, with volunteers of all ages coming together to make a visible difference in their neighbourhood.

Leading by Example

The clean-up was supported by KCC Councillor Paul Stepto and Party Chair Em Perera, who rolled up their sleeves and joined in the efforts. Cllr Stepto and Em not only helped with litter-picking but also took the time to clean many of the signs in the area that had accumulated layers of grime and mud. Their hands-on approach highlighted the Green Party’s commitment to leading by example and working alongside the community.

Why Clean-Ups Matter

Litter is more than just an eyesore—it’s a threat to our environment, wildlife, and community pride. By organising monthly clean-ups, the Tonbridge and Malling Green Party aims to:

  • Protect local wildlife: Litter can harm animals and birds, who may ingest or become trapped in discarded items.
  • Enhance community pride: Clean streets and green spaces make our neighbourhoods more enjoyable for everyone.
  • Promote environmental awareness: These events encourage residents to think about their impact on the environment and take action to reduce waste.

A Community Effort

The success of the March clean-up is a testament to the power of community action. Volunteers worked together to fill bags with litter, leaving the Higham Lane area looking cleaner and brighter. The event also provided an opportunity for residents to connect with each other and with Green Party members, fostering a sense of shared responsibility for our local environment.

Looking Ahead

The Tonbridge and Malling Green Party is committed to continuing these monthly clean-ups, with plans to tackle different areas of the borough in the coming months. We believe that small, consistent actions can lead to big changes, and we’re proud to see our community coming together to make a difference.

If you’d like to join us for our next clean-up or have suggestions for areas that need attention, please get in touch.

Together, we can create a cleaner, greener Tonbridge and Malling for everyone.
