Tonbridge & Malling Green Party Joins the Fun at Tonbridge Lions Community Fete

On Sunday, 1st June, members of the Tonbridge & Malling Green Party joined residents, families, and community groups at the Tonbridge Lions Community Fete, held in the beautiful grounds of Tonbridge Castle.

Although the Tonbridge Lions Club is a non-partisan charitable organisation and not affiliated with any political party, local Green councillors and volunteers were delighted to attend and support this well-loved community event as guests.

Green Party councillors Anna Cope, Mark Hood, and others were present throughout the day, taking the opportunity to chat with residents, listen to local concerns, and celebrate everything that makes Tonbridge special. The team also ran a tombola stand, which was a hit with visitors of all ages and helped raise funds to support local campaigns.

But their involvement didn’t stop there.

Keeping Tonbridge Tidy

True to Green values, volunteers from the Tonbridge & Malling Green Party also brought along litter pickers and bags, spending part of the afternoon making sure the castle grounds and surrounding green spaces were kept clean and litter-free for everyone to enjoy.

“It’s important to walk the walk as well as talk the talk,” said Cllr Anna Cope.

“Whether it’s through policy, education, or picking up litter at a community fete, every small act helps make Tonbridge greener, safer, and more welcoming.”

Cllr Mark Hood added:

“Events like this are a great way to meet people outside of council chambers. The conversations we had today were meaningful—people care about their environment, their homes, and their future. We’re here to listen and help.”

About the Event

The Tonbridge Lions Community Fete is a staple of the town’s summer calendar, bringing together charities, local groups, performers, and traders for a day of fun, entertainment, and fundraising. With stalls, games, music, and plenty of community spirit, the event celebrates the best of Tonbridge while raising money for local causes.

The Tonbridge Lions Club, who organise the event, are an independent, non-political organisation dedicated to charitable work and civic pride. Their efforts in organising such a fantastic event are appreciated by all who attend, no matter their background or beliefs.

A Day for the Community

The Tonbridge & Malling Green Party thanks the Lions for hosting such a brilliant afternoon and for allowing a space where residents and councillors could connect informally.

It was a fantastic day to talk about local issues like public transport, affordable housing, access to green spaces, and protecting the local environment, as well as to simply enjoy the sunshine, the music, and the great company.

The Green Party will continue to be present at community events across the district this summer, and if you missed them at the fete, you’ll find them again soon, always ready to listen, help, and take action.
